River City Youth Foundation has launched a new bilingual
training program La Escuela Digital (The Digital School) that is helping disadvantaged parents in southeast Austin’s Dove Springs community learn new tech
skills to better support their remote learners at home.
The first phase of the program just concluded with two
weeks of Spanish language training sessions completed. Nearly
20 parents were taught how to communicate and collaborate
using apps such as Zoom. They participated in distance learning
demonstrations and discussed how to tackle the challenges of
online schooling.
All sessions are conducted at River City Youth Foundation’s
technology campus in its outdoor pavilion area. Safety
protocols are enforced including temperature screenings, mask
wearing, and social distancing.
The new training program is made possible with the
support of Google Fiber™ and Dell™ Latino Connect.
